Fans of the DC Universe let out a collective, ‘MARTHA!’ yesterday when news Diane Lane seemingly stated the Justice League film was not going to stand up to the next Avengers movie.

Well, it may not be what it seems.

ComicBook.com reached out to Lane for comment clarity and received a statement from her representatives. It reads as follows:

“Diane meant “sorry to disappoint” in reference to revealing anything concerning “Justice League” that is not already out in the public, and, was declining to comment on a film (Avengers) that she has not seen.

She is thrilled to continue her role as Martha Kent, and appreciates your excitement for “Justice League”.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to clarify this.”

The controversy stemmed from her appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen when she was asked point-blank if she could reveal Justice League spoilers, and if the film will be better than Avengers, Lane replied: “No, and no. Short but honest – I hate to disappoint, but…” sending the collective fanbases into a tizzy of taunts and self-congratulations.

When it comes to Justice League and Marvel’s The Avengers there have been debates all along about which film will ultimately be viewed as the greater one. What fans of both camps probably didn’t expect was to hear a Justice League cast member openly admit that Marvel’s film will be the better one – before Justice League has even hit theaters!

The next answer didn’t get any less awkward, as she also admitted that it’s sometimes weird playing the mother of hot and hunky Superman, Henry Cavill. But, to be fair, he is dreamy.
