While we know Nicole Kidman best for playing Dr. Chase Meridian, the sexy psychologist eager to get under The Dark Knight’s (Val Kilmer) cape, in Batman Forever (1995), we’re going to have to start thinking of her as Aquaman’s (Jason Momoa) mother.

So, why did the Academy Award-winning actress take the role? “The reason why I love [Aquaman] is James Wan is an Australian, and I’ve followed his career since he started. He’s a really good friend of mine, and he offered to let me play Queen Atlanna,” Kidman told EW. “As soon as he said I could wear mother-of-pearl and be a mermaid warrior, I said I’m done. Please. If there is one thing I have to do in my life, I have to be that. [Laughs] Because, you’ve got to have some fun.”

Kidman could certainly use some good press after she was recently involved in a string of bizarre incidents at high-profile award shows. At the Golden Globes, the 49-year-old actress began the event by crashing an interview with Tom Hiddleston and apparently had a case of the munchies — constantly ushering over waiters and scarfing down an obscene amount of food. Then at the Oscars, her bizarre clapping left many viewers scratching their heads, though that had more to do with her trying not to ruin the expensive rings she wore on each of her hands.

An icon for over 70 years, Aquaman is the King of the Seven Seas. This reluctant ruler of Atlantis, caught between a surface world constantly ravaging the sea and Atlanteans looking to lash out in revolt, is committed to protecting the entire globe.

The film is based on characters appearing in comic books published by DC Entertainment and will star Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) as the sea-dwelling superhero, Amber Heard (Machete Kills) as Mera, Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) as Atlantean politician Vulko, Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, and Temuera Morrison as Aquaman’s father.

It’s being directed by James Wan (Furious Seven, The Conjuring), written by Will Beall (Gangster Squad), and produced by Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder and Zack Snyder.
